Meet Neko, a very talkative Norwegian Forest Cat. How Neko came to live with his owners, Brenda and Dave, is interesting. We wouldn't expect any less because Neko is a very interesting cat!
Neko's current owners owned a home in Santa Fe, NM spent time there every year. Neko was a cat that always came to visit them when they were there. In the late Summer, 2007, they drove to Santa Fe, from Tempe, Arizona and were promptly greeted by Neko. However, Brenda and Dave thought he looked sick and started asking neighbors about him. They discovered that his owner had passed away and all the neighbors had been
feeding him and making sure he had water. But he didn't have a home. Brenda and Dave scooped him up and took him to a local veterinarian, where he received a full exam and vaccinations plus some medications. Brenda and Dave were the proud owners of Neko. It didn't occur to them until they were driving back to Tempe, with Neko in the car, that there was problem. Although they were committed to Neko, the problem was they own a Photo Safari business in Africa! They are gone for months at a time and had no idea what or who was going to care for Neko when they were out of the country. Dave went to work immediately on finding the perfect place for Neko to stay when they were gone. He visited many kennels and just felt he hadn't found the perfect fit. Then he visited Arizona Pet Resort. He received a tour of the facility and asked to speak to an owner. Melanie spoke to him, apologizing because she was in her paint clothes and had been painting all day. Dave told her that he loved the "home" feeling of Arizona Pet Resort from the moment he walked in the front door. Among specific things that he liked was that the staff was so friendly and acknowledged him when he walked in, the large cat condo's, and the cleanliness of Arizona Pet Resort. Melanie told him that we describe it as "It is like going to Grandma's house!"
Neko has boarded with us many times in the last 3 years. The staff always looks forward to his stays with us. He does a lot of talking, sitting at the Cattery door, and making a noise that sounds like he is saying "What now?" It makes the staff laugh and they have started making that sound too! On Sundays, when Dave Hocevar, the co-owner of Arizona Pet Resort is here doing paper work before we open at 3:00PM, he usually allows Neko to have the entire front office to roam in. Many times Neko comes into his office and lays down right in the middle of the papers he is working on. Now isn't that just like a cat? We love Neko and know that he has blessed his owner's lives and certainly has blessed Arizona Pet Resort!
