Lurking under the streets of Alexandria, Egypt, is a cache of cats that remained hidden for nearly 1,800 years.
Egyptian archaeologists have unearthed a temple devoted to the cat goddess Bastet beneath the modern city streets. The scientists say the temple was built by Queen Berenike II, wife of the Greek King Ptolemy III, ruler of Egypt from 246 to 221 B.C. Inside the temple were found about 600 statues of cats in various positions.
